PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Kalen Strawberry proving himself as part of Tomahawks Leadership

ENOCH, AB

Tomahawks veteran was named part of the Tomahawks leadership from the start of the 2022-23 season. The Rocky Mountain House native joined the Tomahawks last year playing 35 games, scoring 10 goals, collecting 21 assists for a total of 31 points. So far this season Kalen has played only 4 games and is a point per game player scoring 2 goals and collecting 2 assists for 4 points. We sat down with Kalen to get to know him better!

Q: How does it feel to be part of the Tomahawks leadership group this season, and what do you think you'll bring?

A: It was honestly an honor to be chosen by the organization, coaches, and my teammates. I wasn't expecting something like this at such a young age being a 19-year-old assistant captain. But also said with that. I will bring my best efforts to lead me the Tomahawks on and off the ice.

Q: What made you want to play hockey/how did you get into playing?

A: Just fell in love with the game form ever since I can remember. My dad got me skating on ice at 2 years old, by 3 I was already playing minor hockey because of my skill, ability and size. But I'd for sure say my love for the game came from my dad 110%

Q: What made you want to play for the Tomahawks

A: It was one of my main places I felt like going and that I was comfortable going with. It was convenient also for my family and friends to watch in person because I grew up 2.5 hours southwest of Edmonton in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. I'm glad about my decision so far though! As I've been enjoying my time with my teammates and the Northern Alberta Tomahawks so far!!

Q: What has been your favorite part about being a Tomahawk so Far?

A: Showing up to the rink and seeing all the boys and staff. The rink is my 2nd home, so everyone from the organization is my family!

Q:  Who inspires you the most?

A: I'd have to say my dad and my oldest brother Terence. I wouldn't be a hard worker and the outgoing man I am today without those two. They made a huge impact on my life by showing me how to be a man, but more importantly, how to have a hard work ethic.

Q:  If you didn't play Hockey, what sport would you be playing?

A: Basketball for sure with this size. I played from grade through 10. But in my grade 10 year, I had to pick between hockey and basketball as both were very time consuming,

Q: What plans do you have after hockey?

A: My main goal and plans after I'm done with hockey are to open up a car detailing company that cleans cars from the inside out, with that, also being a paint restoration business for cars also!

Q: What is your message to Tomahawks fans, and to the young fans who look up to you?

A: Let's have a great season and remember, don't stop your journey right before you hit the peak!!
